The 5 Day/5 Night Alaska Bear & Wildlife Tour is a Hallo Bay Wilderness standard
program similar to the 5 day program, but with a little more time to enjoy the Hallo Bay Wilderness area and photograph bears and other wildlife. This program offers
more opportunities to enjoy the Hallo Bay area and its magnificent wildlife than the
4 day program.  This program offers a relaxed variety of viewing bears, birds, marine wildlife, glaciers, volcanoes, day hiking, and fabulous beach combing. There is ample
time to enjoy the views from the camp area while relaxing and soaking in the solitude
of the remote wilderness.  Every day is a different adventure that is planned according
to client interest and physical condition, weather, and wildlife concentrations.  Some destinations include vast inter tidal lagoons, large incredible fossil bed to explore,
sedge meadows with as many as 5 to 15 bears present and salmon filled creeks and rivers.  The major focus is bear viewing, and the more time you have, the more you will learn and understand about these intelligent, complex creatures. We encounter other animals as well.  Often we observe red foxes, river otters, harbor seals, eagles and moose.  Our clients come away with an education on the local plants and the cycles
of the ecosystem.

Hallo Bay provides the guests with three, hearty, family style meals each day. If you
wish alcoholic beverages during evening meals, you will need to bring these with you
as we do not supply them. We provide large, comfortable, heated weatherport cabins. Each cabin has two large cots, mattress pads, sleeping bags, pillows, table and chairs. Personal products such as towels for the showers, shampoos and soaps are not
supplied by Hallo Bay and are the responsibility of the guests to bring. We operate
an environmentally friendly eco camp. Products that we use and that the guests use should have the environmentally friendly label on the products. You can purchase environmentally friendly shampoos, conditioners and bath soap products at local health food stores or sporting goods stores in your area or in Homer before you fly out to our camp.

Itinerary

The following itinerary is a sample only and subject to change(s) due to seasons,
arrival & departure times, tide & weather.

Departure time will vary between 9:00 AM- 11:30 AM: You will board your air taxi
(bush plane) in Homer for a one hour flight to Hallo Bay Wilderness. Remember to
check in with our air service the day before your flight for current flight information.

Regardless of whether the flight is over Mc Neil River and across the giant Four Peak Glacier or along the spectacular Pacific Coast and Augustine Volcano you will be held
in awe of the magnificent panorama throughout the flight. As you approach Hallo Bay Wilderness, the pilot will fly over the camp and surrounding terrain to give you a bird's eye perspective on the immense and incredibly rich coastal ecosystem.

Arrival/Orientation: The friendly Hallo Bay staff will meet you at the beach on your
arrival. Our knowledgeable staff will escort you to your cabin, but please remember,
your gear is your responsibility. Also remember to look around before you step out
of your cabin as it is common to have bears in the camp at anytime!

Cabin check-in and orientation will be conducted by the camp assistant upon your
arrival. A walk thru orientation tour of the Camp facilities will be conducted once all
guests are checked into their cabins. Included will be operation of restrooms,
showers, handling and care of food products and trash, availability of electricity and safety precautions for areas regularly used by bears as they pass near the Camp.

A thorough Bear Safety Orientation will be conducted by your Hallo Bay Guides.
Including a mandatory description of how the guides and guests will conduct
themselves while traveling through bear habitat and during bears encounters.

Guests will be formed into two groups of 4-5 guests per guide. In this manner we
can provide a unique exclusive field outing focusing on your interests at a pace and distance that fits your physical abilities.

Now what you came all this way for..... We will walk at a leisurely and observing pace, stopping often at nearby salmon streams, or food rich meadows depending on current bear feeding habits at the time of your visit. When we come upon bears, we will stop, observe and photograph them in a manner so as not to disturb them. Your guide will answer any questions you may have and provide clear instructions on appropriate behavior around the bears.
(4-5 hours and 1-2 mile total, difficulty level - moderate walk).

A family style dinner will be served in the Galley. On cool evenings, the fireplace will provide a cozy warmth while we talk of the day. After a hot shower, you will fall asleep
to the sound of the surf and sea breezes in the comfort of a private, heated cabin.

Breakfast each morning is served in the galley. Your lunch will be packed by the cook
in preparation for a full day outing.

Each day we will walk to various locations to observe and photograph many things.
Each group will participate in a guided marine wildlife viewing walk that has good opportunity to observe several species of whales, sea otters, harbor seals, puffins, nesting eagles, a wealth of marine birds and, of course, the omnipresent brown bear.
On the return trip your guide will show you one of the richest fossil beds known in
the area. (4-5 hours and 2-3 miles total, difficulty level - easy walk).

A different day we will take a full day guided walk to the south of the Camp where
there is a very interesting tidal lagoon.  The point overlooking the lagoon affords a
good view of the area's glaciers, volcanoes, brown bears, moose, shorebirds, and waterfowl.  A nearby cliff holds both a nesting pair of bald eagles and peregrine
falcons.  The lagoon is excellent bear habitat in all seasons, providing succulent
sedges from May to July, and salmon runs from July to October.  The beach combing
in this area is incredible due to the nature of the currents. Japanese glass net floats,
old shipwreck debris, thousands of beached logs, whale bones, and countless other objects are stacked against the sand dunes.  (8-9 hours and 5-6 miles average,
difficulty level - moderate walk).

The guide could also take you for a walk on the tidal flats to observe bears digging
clams on the low tide, grazing on the sedges in the numerous meadows, or feeding
on salmon on the rising tide at the river mouth (depends on time of year).
(3-4 hours and 1-2 miles total, difficulty level - easy walk).

The guided groups also have the opportunity to walk a very short distance in front of camp at low tide to an island outcropping for a fascinating nature walk. Observe sea otters, sea ducks, seals, shorebirds and discover the amazing micro ecosystems of
the tide pools. This harsh and incredibly dynamic environment holds some of the
finest examples of evolutionary miracles. Learn about the life cycle of the anemone,
the dunce cap tunicate, the hermit crab, the barnacle, and countless other hardy creatures.  Eagles usually nest on the island, and in June and July a few bears are
almost always present digging clams and searching for blemmyfish under the rocks.
(3-4 hours, 1 mile total, easy walk).

We also have the opportunity to do a
full day Guided Nature Hike north into the next
bay, utilizing a bear trail to Big River.  We follow the coastline, stopping to examine geologic formations, flora, bird life, and bears that congregate in various areas. The
beach combing is superb in this area, as wrecked airplane and boat sections can be
found amongst a wealth of flotsam and jetsam. The Big River area, which is composed
of a vast grassy mouth, and wooded riparian corridor, holds huge numbers of bears
when the salmon are spawning. (8-9 hours and 5-6 miles average, difficulty level - moderate walk).

On another day we could walk to the top of a bluff overlooking the ocean where we
may observe sea otters, Stellar sea lions, nesting eagles, a wealth of marine birds, and seals. Bears may be digging clams, grazing on the coastal sedge grasses, or
even swimming in the ocean. From our wildflower covered perch we will watch the
tide change, and view bears from a different perspective. (4-5 hours and 2-3 miles
total, difficulty level - easy walk).

If on any of the days the mid day is hot, we will take an afternoon break at Camp.
This time is planned as an opportunity for you to relax around camp, and have a late lunch or early dinner. In most cases, this is the warmest time of the day and wildlife
is generally inactive because of the heat.

After each day of hiking and wildlife photography, the groups will hike back to the
camp to enjoy a wonderful, hearty, family style supper prepared by our chef. After
supper, the guests can lounge around the galley discussing the days adventures,
down load their digital images on their computers or relax in the lounge chairs on the front entrance to the galley with a nice cup of coffee or hot chocolate. The guests can spend the evenings after supper playing cards, enjoying board games, reading a good book, putting together puzzles, or falling asleep in their cabins to the sounds of the
evening song birds, light breeze and the incoming tides.

The final morning, enjoy breakfast, pack your gear prior to check out and departure.
8:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Approximate scheduled departure time.  Alaskan bush pilots do
not like to wait, so everyone should be ready to load and board well in advance to
the plane's arrival.

Hallo Bay retains the right to change this itinerary without notice due to weather,
tides, animal behavior, arriving or departing aircraft schedules and client safety.
