Hallo Bay Bear Camp |
3 Day/3
Night Coastal Wilderness Trek $875
Basic Trip Booking
Information Request Form Your trip will be led by one of Hallo Bay's experienced wilderness guides who are familiar with the local conditions, the weather and the wildlife of the Katmai coast. Our guides are also skilled in wilderness lore, emergency wilderness medical training and evacuation techniques. Additionally your guide will be carrying radio and satellite communication equipment which he will use to maintain regular scheduled communication with Hallo Bay Wilderness Camp as an added measure of safety. Our 3 day Coastal Trek package begins when you board the bush plane in Homer for The Hallo Bay Camp based tours lend themselves far better to photographic opportunities of the bears than the coastal treks. The coastal trek will give the guest the opportunity for scenic and some wildlife photography but if your interest is in bear photography, the coastal trek would not be the best choice. Where will we be hiking to? We have a variety of coastal routes to choose from on the treks. These individual routes vary, requiring 4-10 miles per day of hiking. Other factors such as tides, weather and volcanic activity as well as physical ability of the participants will determine the particular route chosen. How tough are the hikes? Our hikes vary from day to day and place to place. To play it safe and to make sure you know what you will need to do, expect on a typical day to hike up to four to ten miles in varying terrain from soft sand to muddy flats to creek crossings. This is not a walk in the park!! You will hike up and down hills and be walking on several different grades in any given day. We suggest you “shape up” for your trip by hiking in your local wilderness first to see how you do. This may be your nearest beach, local mountain range, or maybe nearby desert. Your Hallo Bay Guide does not want to force you on a “Death March” by any means. We will walk at a leisurely speed in the most comfortable fashion available, but yes, each day will be a hike. How long are the hikes? We will hike between 4 to 10 miles per day over rocky beach terrain, ford frigid glacial rivers up to 3 feet deep and will be at the mercy of the area's unpredictable weather. What will we see on this trip? - brown bears What will I learn on this trip? This
is the best opportunity available to learn firsthand from experienced guides the proper techniques
