The Legends of Hallo Bay Wilderness

Alph is the alpha male who dominates the Hallo Bay Wilderness. We estimate Alph's age to be around 20 years old, putting him in the latter stages of his prime. This magnificent bear is respected by all who share his home range, which is illustrated as other bears evacuate the area when his presence is detected. Alph's relaxed demeanor and deliberate actions portray a supreme confidence and wisdom achieved through years of experience. We estimate Alph to be the father of most of the younger resident bears, including Ted. Alaska Bear Photos
Hallo Bay Bear Camp We like to think of Nancy as the Matriarch of Hallo Bay Wilderness. She has been present since the creation of the camp ten years ago, relentlessly ensuring the survival of her species by raising multiple cub litters after another. Through mild temperament and patience, she has allowed us to observe her for endless hours over many seasons. She has provided us with enlightening education on the omnipotent maternal instinct of the mother bear that is undaunted by the disturbing tribulations of nature's raw cruelty.
Ted is the rising prince of the resident male bears. A handsome ten year old male, he has known the camp and its guests since he was a cub. He is the most tolerant bear around people, often displaying a curious interest and a friendly demeanor. Despite the rapid acquisition of the massive frame of a healthy male brown bear, his antics are often comical, providing some of the most memorable moments and very valued photographs for guests. We believe he was one of Nancy's cubs, and could likely be Alph's son as well. Katmai National Park Alaska
Alaska Bear Photos Ursula has been a resident female in the Hallo Bay Wilderness for several years. In the 2001 season she proudly graced us with her presence, accompanied by three healthy young spring cubs. She displayed the intensity of a young mother in all of her actions, searching for fish, clams and remaining passionately vigilant for danger. She viewed us with amazing tolerance. Ursula then returned for the 2002 season, but only followed by two of her cubs. In the 2003 & 2004 season, Ursula with her two cubs Digger and Emma in tow, again showed her trust towards us by numerous spectacular viewing opportunities.
Eddie is the youngest member of the legends group. She is approaching her 6th year with us and made quite a mark from her first Hallo Bay appearance. Raised as a single cub to an Alpha mother, Eddie tested human patience early and often. Originally thought to be a male, Eddie was named after "Eddie Haskell from Leave To Beaver" for her teenage attitude. Even after finding out that she was a female we couldn't find another name to match her personality. Ask any camp staff about Eddie and a classic tale will arise. We look forward to her return for another season. Katmai National Park Alaska
