“Today the enemies of wildlife include sprawling urbanization, overuse of habitat
areas by resource managers desperate for increased revenue sources, the public demanding to see and use their public lands at a greater rate than ever and poorly planned and executed wildlife studies. My greatest pleasure today is giving others
the opportunity to observe a thriving pristine wildlife habitat without large impacting crowds. Each day brings an opportunity to experience an unspoiled habitat and
savor it again and again.”

A word about wilderness guides by Clint
"The guides and people of Hallo Bay Wilderness are a very unique and special type
of people. They have a deep rooted and honest love of the wilderness and find a
peaceful comfort within it. Their concern for the land and wildlife is above reproach,
and their willingness to share this knowledge with others is the future."

"We are so used to living in a fast paced traveling society, trying to see it all and do
it all that we have forgotten how to stop and find our place in the great scheme of
things. Once in our lifetime, if we are very lucky, we may experience an adventure
that changes our lives forever, Hallo Bay Wilderness was such a place for me. The
wild and untouched splendor of this Alaska wilderness retreat reawakens one's
love and appreciation for all things in our lives which we have taken for granted
for so long. The peaceful natural beauty of the surroundings, the endless change
of the tides, the majestic bears who guard this paradise and the spirit of those of
Hallo Bay Wilderness bring on an awe of life and a gentle calming effect to the soul."

Two years later he began a twenty year stint with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, wildlife habitat enhancement. John’s three children graduated high school, (one college), moved out and so did he. From the wilds of
Arizona he migrated north to Alaska.

"The experience of Hallo Bay has enriched me immensely. It is a constant source
of wonderment and learning. As is said of formal education – Hallo Bay is a journey,
not a destination."

"After spending some time exploring parts of Alaska, I decided the place that I would most love to spend my summer is Hallo Bay Bear Camp. When you step out of the plane at this very remote place, a certain feeling of comfort, a feeling of home, and oneness with your surroundings and the environment, almost overwhelms you. It is truly a unique place and one where I really feel connected and very much understand and respect my surroundings. I come from a small town in Oregon. I love the remoteness of camp and will offer a hearty start to your day and complete your evening with a wonderful satisfying meal."

Hallo Bay Day Trip Naturalist Guide ©

DeWaine has been an artist, naturalist and educator for more than twenty-five years and has guided and set up educational programs in Costa Rica and Ecuador as well as Alaska. DeWaine's passion is learning about and communicating with others, the wonders of this incredible world on which we live.

"It is my view that there is a perception of the natural world brought on by media experiences and then there is the perception brought on by direct immersive experiences.  Seldom, if ever are they the same. There is an astounding difference between seeing a close-up of a bear regarding its environs in a television documentary and then being there- on the same level with the bear- seeing it doing the same thing, then looking YOU straight in the eye, regarding you and moving on. The experience of being a part of the great bear’s environment- an accepted part of its landscape- is a life changing privilege.  Hallo Bay Camp is one of the last places on earth where this is a possibility."

Herb

Hallo Bay Wilderness Naturalist Part Time Guide ©

Herb lives in Tennessee and graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree
in business logistics and transportation. He has hiked and backpacked throughout the Great Smokies Mountains and volunteers in the National Park, educating people about the place and its' wildlife. Herb developed a love and respect for not only the mountains but everything wild and natural.

"To me, when thinking about wilderness and wildlife, the first words that come to mind are respect and responsibility. I believe first we have to have a respect for the natural state of wild places and wildlife. Then we have a moral responsibility to preserve it, not just for posterity, but more so because it has a right to exist. I have nothing to offer the wilderness in return except a promise to not alter it in any way and help tell the story to others about the need to do all we can to preserve it and other wild places like it. I knew the first time I visited Hallo Bay that it was truly one of those places."
