“Today the enemies of wildlife include sprawling urbanization, overuse of habitat
areas by resource managers desperate for increased revenue sources, the public
demanding to see and use their public lands at a greater rate than ever and poorly
planned and executed wildlife studies. My greatest pleasure today is giving others
the opportunity to observe a thriving pristine wildlife habitat without large impacting
crowds. Each day brings an opportunity to experience an unspoiled habitat and
savor it again and again.”

A word about wilderness guides by Clint
"The guides and people of Hallo Bay Wilderness are a very unique and special type
of people. They have a deep rooted and honest love of the wilderness and find a
peaceful comfort within it. Their concern for the land and wildlife is above reproach,
and their willingness to share this knowledge with others is the future."

"We are so used to living in a fast paced traveling society, trying to see it all and do
it all that we have forgotten how to stop and find our place in the great scheme of
things. Once in our lifetime, if we are very lucky, we may experience an adventure
that changes our lives forever, Hallo Bay Wilderness was such a place for me. The
wild and untouched splendor of this Alaska wilderness retreat reawakens one's
love and appreciation for all things in our lives which we have taken for granted
for so long. The peaceful natural beauty of the surroundings, the endless change
of the tides, the majestic bears who guard this paradise and the spirit of those of
Hallo Bay Wilderness bring on an awe of life and a gentle calming effect to the soul."

Carma is a native Missourian now residing on her small farm near the Big Maries River in
the Brinktown Missouri area. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a double minor in Art and Home Economics. Carma is an artist using her home decorating, flower gardens and cooking as her artistic outlet.

"No matter where I go I love to sample the food and the culture and later in my own home
try to reproduce those foods that tickled my taste buds. I like home cooked meals made from
scratch. I live rather rustically on my farm with a wood cook stove and no indoor plumbing. I
love to entertain and cook for family and friends. I have always wanted to come to Alaska.
One of my favorite motto's is "All who wander are not lost".

Hallo Bay Day Trip Naturalist Guide ©

DeWaine has been an artist, naturalist and educator for more than twenty-five years and has guided and set up educational programs in Costa Rica and Ecuador as well as Alaska. DeWaine's passion is learning about and communicating with others, the wonders of this incredible world on which we live.

"It is my view that there is a perception of the natural world brought on by media experiences and then there is the perception brought on by direct immersive experiences.  Seldom, if ever are they the same. There is an astounding difference between seeing a close-up of a bear regarding its environs in a television documentary and then being there- on the same level with the bear- seeing it doing the same thing, then looking YOU straight in the eye, regarding you and moving on. The experience of being a part of the great bear’s environment- an accepted part of its landscape- is a life changing privilege.  Hallo Bay Camp is one of the last places on earth where this is a possibility."

Hallo Bay Wilderness Naturalist Part Time Guide ©

Herb lives in Tennessee and graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree
in business logistics and transportation. He has hiked and backpacked throughout the Great Smokies Mountains and volunteers in the National Park, educating people about the place and its' wildlife. Herb developed a love and respect for not only the mountains but everything wild and natural.

"To me, when thinking about wilderness and wildlife, the first words that come to mind are respect and responsibility. I believe first we have to have a respect for the natural state of wild places and wildlife. Then we have a moral responsibility to preserve it, not just for posterity, but more so because it has a right to exist. I have nothing to offer the wilderness in return except a promise to not alter it in any way and help tell the story to others about the need to do all we can to preserve it and other wild places like it. I knew the first time I visited Hallo Bay that it was truly one of those places."

Sara

Sara
Hallo Bay Wilderness Office Manager©

Sara was born and raised in Alabama and still resides there whenever she is not in Alaska
or traveling the country/world. She was a student-athlete at The University of Alabama, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration concentrating in International Management. She also double minored in Italian and Environmental Studies while being on the Women's Varsity Rowing team. After leaving Alabama, she made her way to Alaska and joined the team of Hallo Bay in 2010.  After other seasonal jobs around the country she made her way back South to begin the Appalachian Trail.  A goal of hers for many years, she finally started the trail Spring 2011 and completed the 2,181 mile thru-hike from Georgia to Maine in August.  An outdoors person to the core, the trail has given her the experience and mental strength to try almost anything.

"I feel honored to work for Hallo Bay because I completely agree with their environmental practices.  The camp is fully sustainable and a shining example of what wilderness responsibility and outdoor ethics should embody.  We offer a truly unique experience in a very remote setting that this company has honed and mastered over 25 years of service.
I enjoy being able to book guests, following their journey until they reach our office and sending them off on the plane to camp as the highlight of their trip in Alaska.  Then I get to see their grinning faces and hear their amazing stories once they return back to town. Hallo Bay and Alaska feels like a second home to me now, and I am excited to be part of this team and can't wait to see what happens next!"
